"Pair Of Terracotta Bas-reliefs, Characters From The Comedia Del Arte, Late 18th Century "
Charming pair of oval terracotta bas-reliefs depicting two emblematic figures of the commedia dell'arte: Pierrot, dreamy and melancholic, leaning on his guitar, wearing his ample ruff and buttoned jacket, and Scaramouche (or Harlequin), in a dancing position, in a fitted costume adorned with buttons and a plumed hat.
These lively compositions evoke the 18th century taste for gallant and theatrical themes. They recall the creations of Clodion. They are presented in a very beautiful patinated bronze support with suspension rings, made to measure.
