An Empire gilt and patinated bronze mantle clock topped with a bust of Athena. Wire movement signed "LESIEUR". Resting on four feet.
Empire period, early 19th century.
Very good condition (chip on a winder restored).
Height: 41.5 cm X Width: 19 cm X Depth: 12 cm

Lesieur was a clockmaker based in Paris on Rue de la Verrerie. He is known for having regularly collaborated with Thomire and the greatest Parisian bronze makers. His movements are very often signed on the dial, but also on the back of the movement, which is the prerogative of the greatest. The Mobilier National has several Lesieur clocks in its collections, and he was a supplier to the royal furniture repository.
