This late Meiji-period Japanese Satsuma plate (circa 1890–1910) is a prime Kyoto school example, featuring a dramatic warrior scene in overglaze enamel and heavy gilt. The decoration shows a samurai with sword raised mid-strike, amid richly adorned standards and finely detailed attendants — all framed by a continuous gilt meander border.
The ivory crackled ground is typical of Kyoto Satsuma wares, with moriage enamel beading adding texture. The plate is unsigned, consistent with Kyoto export pieces. Weight is a substantial 1108g. Minor glaze stress line to rim (confirmed superficial under UV), and mild rubbing to gilding — no restorations or repainting.
Highly collectable and ready for display.
