Silver Sauceboat, England, 18th Century
Solid silver tripod sauce boat with a gadrooned edge and a handle decorated with an acanthus leaf. Each foot is made up of two shells joined by a volute.
Hallmarks on the reverse:
- Hallmark of the silversmiths Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp (DS/RS), active in London between 1763 and 1788.
- Crowned leopard's head hallmark partially erased.
- Two hallmarks largely erased and barely legible.
- Swan import hallmark.
Two marks near the rear feet.
Good overall condition.
