Crow Tomahawk – Northern Great Plains (United States), 19th century The wrought iron blade features an openwork cutout in the shape of a heart and crescent, typical of the prestige models exchanged with settlers in the 19th century. The opposite part, shaped like a furnace, was used for smoking during councils or treaties, giving the object a dual function: warlike and diplomatic. The patinated wooden handle is finely notched with regular spirals. At its end hangs a beaded sheath with geometric patterns made of blue, red, and white glass beads. This ornamentation is extended by rawhide fringes and some ritual elements. Materials: wrought iron, wood, glass beads, rawhide, feathers, metal decorations. Length: 54 cm. Blade length is 25 cm.
