A magnificent 19th-century Italian painting. Oil on canvas, first canvas, painting depicting a young woman absorbed in thought, of extraordinary pictorial quality. The girl with long blond hair is dressed simply with a delicate blue ribbon around her neck. She is captured in a moment of deep meditation, holding a sheet of paper in her hands, likely a letter from her distant lover.

The balanced and elegant composition unfolds vertically against a neutral background, thus highlighting the psychological aspect of the face. The light, coming from the right, carefully shapes the features and enhances the softness of the hair and the pearly complexion. The attention to detail and the flair for feminine melancholy hark back to Italian academic painting of the second half of the 19th century.
