GeorgesRenaud (1904 - 1994):
Born in Paris in 1901, Georges Renaud began an apprenticeship at a young age with a cabinetmaker in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine and was then hired by a sculptor on rue Léon-Frot, whose workshop he bought after the latter's death. Specializing in bronze work, he is notably responsible for the renovation of the large candelabras on the Pont Alexandre III in Paris. It was through François Bazin that he joined the HB Grande Maison factory in 1928. Odetta stoneware owes much to his creativity, both in the field of decoration and in that of forms. With René Beauclair, he illustrates the aesthetic revival of the Odetta period. For the 1931 colonial exhibition, Renaud created a large set of dishes and plates with purely imaginary decorations of African scenes. This participation earned him a gold medal. In 1939, Georges Renaud created the series of pitchers with the effigies of American presidents. After the war and until 1972, he continued to go to Quimper where he explored all aspects of Brittany, its trades, its landscapes, with this very particular relief rendering. It was he who created in 1961 the two figures that still frame the entrance to the HB Henriot earthenware factory today. His work contributed to modernizing the image of Breton earthenware, by integrating innovative artistic elements while respecting local traditions.
