A Japanese Bronze Sculpture Depicting An Oni With A Ceremonial Koro

A large Japanese bronze sculpture depicting an oni lifting a Buddhist ceremonial kōro (incense burner) with his left hand. The figure, kneeling, rests the other hand on his hip for balance and displays great strength in the act of raising the incense burner. The garments are finely incised and still retain traces of gilding, with a large phoenix engraved on the back.
