Victorian Seal Wheel With Intaglio Stones Charles X
Rare finely chiseled gilt metal seal wheel, including 6 intaglios (see description below) and a glass paste handle.
Detail of the intaglios:- Onyx; an angel holding two birds on a leash, with the french inscription "C'est résister en vain" ("It is resisting in vain").
- Blue glass paste with imitation turquoise; an angel rolling a box containing two birds, with the french inscription " Attrape sage et fou" ("Wise and foolish catcher").
- Grey chalcedony; two weeping willows with the french inscription " Le destin nous sépare, le penchant nous unit" ("Fate separates us, inclination unites us").
- Amethyst; a bird on a branch with the french inscription around it " Mon amour dure après la mort" ("My love lasts after death").
- Blood jasper; a bird on a perch with the french inscription above "Bonsoir" ("Good evening").
- Citrine; a sunshine and mountains with the french inscription "Je reviendrai" ("I will return").
