"Suiveur De Rosalba Carriera (1675-1757) Young Girl "
Rosalba CARRIERA was a pastellist and miniaturist painter from Venice. Trained at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome in 1705, she painted for Duke Christian Ludovico of Mecklenburg, for the Elector Palatine, from 1706, and for King Frederick IV of Denmark. She went to Paris with her family in 1720 where she was admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting upon presentation of a pastel portrait of King Louis XV. Her success was such that she was unable to satisfy all his requests. Here is a charming bust portrait of a young girl with blonde hair adorned with forget-me-nots. She wears an open blue coat revealing her shoulder.
