Alexandre Kostanda began his career as an apprentice to Louis Giraud in Vallauris in 1936. Over the years, he taught ceramics in Biot and was a teacher to the founders of the Accolay workshops. In 1949, he returned to Vallauris, where he took over the direction of Louis Giraud's studio before founding his own in 1953. Kostanda used stoneware clay from Cluny, which withstands higher firing temperatures, and mixed it with Vallauris earth. His ceramics, which evolved from floral motifs to more refined designs, are characterized by muted colors close to the natural hues of clay.
