An elegant 18th-century Italian burl and birch centerpiece, this elegant writing table is crafted from fine thuja burl and birch, an excellent example of the period's elegant cabinetmaking. The curved, rounded top features a rich burl veneer, with central inserts and subtle gilded metal trim, a motif also found on the four legs. The sinuous lines of the top and the curved, roe deer legs recall the Baroque style that was widespread in Italy in the mid-18th century. A central drawer with a chiseled bronze keyhole adds a functional and decorative touch.
