"Regency Period Fireplace In Black Stone From Saint Cyr Au Mont d'Or From The Regency Period"
An important and rare Regency period fireplace in black stone from Saint Cyr au Mont d'Or (Rhône), with a sculpted decoration of putti emerging from the bath, one wiping the feet of the second holding a wreath of flowers with his loincloth. Its slightly curved lintel, with its ends adorned with a conch shell from which foliage emerges, rests on projecting, very slightly curved sheathed jambs. A torus runs along its hearth line. The lintel returns were recut by our workshop, from the same stone, respecting the quality of the object. A discreetly restored floor slab is available. Stone from Saint Cyr au Mont d'Or (Rhône): With shades varying from gray to black (the most popular) or ochre with a purple vein, the particularity of this stone is the inclusion of gryphea, a mother-of-pearl color (a mollusk close to the oyster that lived from the Upper Triassic to the Cretaceous, −237 to −65 million years ago). Its body length is 169.5 cm. Its total depth (with its 158.5 x 31 cm floor slab) is 68 cm. The dimensions of its hearth are 148 cm wide and 96 cm high.
