"Bernard Pomey - Abstraction From 1959"
Lithograph by Bernard Pomey from 1959Framed, dimensions with frame H 66.5 cm by 52 cm WideBernard Pomey (1928-1959) is a French painter trained at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Center for Sacred Art. Initially figurative, he quickly evolved towards a lyrical abstraction nourished by spirituality. His work, brief but intense, explores matter and light through dense canvases, sometimes made on supports mixed with sand and cement. His series Gaïa, Hélia and Sélia reflect a search for balance between structure and emotion. He also worked in tapestry, mosaic and stained glass, testifying to a quest for unity between art and the sacred. Having died prematurely at the age of 31, Pomey leaves behind a rare and deeply interior body of work, marked by a mystical and poetic sensitivity.
