Pierre Bach (1906-1971) "village Of Erbalunga, Corsica, 59" Oil On Canvas Signed Lower Right
Pierre BACH (1906-1971) "Village of Erbalunga, Corsica 1959" Oil on canvas signed lower right, titled by the artist on the stretcher on the back. Dimensions: 38 x 46 cm. Purchased from a resident of Erbalunga who owned it directly from the painter. Pierre Bach moved to the Erbalunga marina in Brando (Haute-Corse) in 1930. He devoted himself to landscape painting early on and exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris from 1930–1932, where he presented views of Corsica. Throughout his career, he captured perched villages, steep coastlines, ports and scenes of island life on canvas. Corsica thus became the heart of his inspiration and the geographical anchor of his work. He died on June 8, 1971 in Erbalunga, where he had chosen to live and work. Two of the artist's oils, Paysage de Corse and Balagne, Corse (1948), are now held at the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Toul, testifying to the institutional recognition of his work. Pierre Bach developed a figurative painting nourished by his attachment to the Mediterranean light. His oils on canvas highlight Corsican landscapes: Erbalunga, Piana, Restonica, Ajaccio, Balagne. The views of ports and rural scenes reveal a sensitive style, where vernacular architecture is part of a sunny nature. His luminous palette (warm ochres, deep greens, marine blues) and his taste for natural framing recall the Post-Impressionist heritage.
