Elegant pair of orientalist sculptures in dark brown spelter with bronze patina representing two Sudanese warriors mounted on their camels. The sculptor here highlights the presence and nobility of these desert riders. The faces are expressive, the draperies flowing as well as the detailed harnesses. Signed Emile Guillemin * on the terrace. Circa 1880 In very good condition. Dimensions of the man with the rifle in his hand: 44 cm high, 36 cm wide, 14.5 cm deep. Dimensions of the other man: 45.5 cm high, 36 cm wide, 14.5 cm deep. *Émile-Coriolan Guillemin 1841-1907 He traveled to North Africa and the Mediterranean basin. In 1870 he established his reputation as an orientalist sculptor. He exhibited at the Paris painting and sculpture salon until 1890. He collaborated with major art publishing houses such as Barbedienne and Christofle. He died in 1907 in Paris.
