Italian Preaching By Cavelli
Oil on canvas depicting a monk preaching in front of a painting of the Virgin and Child before an impromptu audience of peasants from the Roman countryside. Typical of the scenes made fashionable in Paris by French painters staying at the Villa Medici such as Jean Victor Schnetz, Achille Etna Michalon, Hortense Lescot or nearby such as Léopold Robert, its subjects were also treated by Italian painters. The painting is signed on the back and dated 1820, it is sold unframed and as is.
