Truncated column or sheath for the presentation of a bust. Made using the "Scagliola" technique, a stucco imitation of marble, in this case "Siena Yellow" for the base and porphyry for the shaft. It has been restored and is perfectly solid to accommodate heavy loads such as a marble vase or bust. Italy, mid-19th century.
