This dagger comes from the Abelam people, located in the Sepik region of Papua New Guinea. It is carefully crafted from the bone of a cassowary, an emblematic bird of the region and deeply respected in local cultures. Used both as a ceremonial weapon and an object of prestige, this dagger embodies the symbolic and social richness of the Abelam culture. The naturally hard and dense cassowary bone was carefully carved to produce sharp, robust points. In the Abelam tradition, these daggers could be worn during initiation rituals, ceremonial dances, or offered as a token of honor.
