Mounted on cardboard.- Photo size 18.5 x 22 cm- Under mat 40x50cmGiorgio Sommer (1834-1914) was an Italian photographer of German origin. A great traveler, he took numerous photographs for albums, catalogs and postcards. He worked in Rome and then opened studios in Naples. He photographed Pompeii but also the streets and architecture of Naples as well as scenes of daily life (often reproduced in the studio). Together with the German photographer Edmund Behles, they became the most prolific photographers of this period. Sommer was appointed official photographer to King Vittorio Emanuele II of Italy.
