"Art Deco Period Desk And Chair, Modernist Model, France, Circa 1920"
I am pleased to offer for sale this magnificent desk accompanied by its original seat in the Art Deco style and period. This piece of furniture was made in France circa 1920. It is a rare model perfectly illustrating the so-called "modernist" movement: rigorous lines, geometric design, absence of frills and unnecessary decorations. It is upholstered in a magnificent varnished speckled maple veneer. It has three drawers, one of which locks with a key, the key is present and from the period. The shine of the wood is enhanced by the shimmering color of a royal blue leather desk pad. This same leather also upholsters the seat with armrests, also in speckled maple. A surprising and refined detail, the filing cabinet section above the drawer unit is composed of a maple structure in which five glass plates are inserted, delimiting the storage spaces. They are removable. I chose to leave this desk set in its original state. This for two reasons: All firstly, to preserve its patina, whether that of the wood or that of the leather, giving it an additional charm. The second is more prosaic. The economy of a traditional buffer polishing allows us to offer this beautiful piece of furniture at a reasonable price. Furthermore, the desk and its seat are in a remarkable state of conservation. After careful examination, we can notice three or four small filled chips in the veneer, only on the foot. For the rest, it is fully functional. The drawers slide well, the lock works, the glass plates are in perfect condition, the desk pad has some fine scratches from use. The same goes for the seat, the structure is perfectly stable, the seat very comfortable and the leather close to new except for three or four scratches from use. This piece of furniture is obviously double-sided. Here is a unique opportunity to offer yourself a magnificent piece of modernist Art Deco furniture, in a remarkable state of conservation, all for a friendly price.
