Chest of drawers in polychrome painted wood, continuous concave curve (front and sides), Northern Italy (Veneto/Lombardy/Trieste), late 18th – early 19th centuryCharming antique chest of drawers opening with three drawers. Continuous concave curve: the front and sides have the same inward-facing, bowl-shaped curve. Overhanging fretwork top; edge decorated with a floral frieze; large verdigris reserve in the center. Drawers with shaded green bottoms framed by floral cartouches and scrolls enhanced with gilded fillets; handles and keyholes in period wrought iron. Molded base forming a plinth; small feet with blackened scrolls. Austrigin patina: wear, chipping, cracks and small old repairs consistent with age. Stable and functional piece of furniture; drawers slide correctly. Ideal for an entrance or living room. Polychrome tempera decoration and gilded highlights, typical of regional painted furniture from Northern Italy. The low silhouette, the scalloped top and the continuous concave curve (front and sides) connect the piece to the Baroque/Rococo taste of Venetian influence, circa 1780–1820.
