Pair of "Chivalrous" earrings attributed to VAN CLEEF & ARPELS in textured 18k yellow gold (750°/°°), platinum and diamonds. These pendant hoop earrings, known as door knocker earrings, bearing no mark or hallmark, were made in the very early 1970s by André Vassort's workshop for Van Cleef & Arpels. The motif is listed in the House's commercial catalogs in France in 1969, 1970 and 1971, within the "Chevaleresque Collection". However, the diamond-set model presented here appears to have been specifically designed for Van Cleef & Arpels New York. It is common to find this design as part of a parure, including three modular bracelets that can be transformed into a necklace or sautoir. The jewelry can be attributed with certainty to André Vassort's workshop and strongly presumed to be made for Van Cleef & Arpels. French work circa 1970.
