18th Louis XVI Secret Box In Marquetry

Rare Louis XVI-era secret box, 18th century, richly inlaid on all sides.

The box conceals numerous secrets within, allowing the most diverse compartments to be opened through sliding elements or spring-loaded traps. One is astonished by the number of secrets they managed to fit inside this box, nearly 20.

In the 18th century, cabinetmakers loved to create these kinds of objects and indulge in their creativity; on the other hand, they were very useful for hiding private papers or valuables.
