Two techniques used for this Shahsavan: soumak* in the center (originally, front of the bag) and banded kilims (originally, back of the bag). Zoomorphic spiders are widely represented on the soumak part, in different colors: orange, fuschia, beige, ochre. Some abraches in the kilim part: term designating a variation of tones in the same color.
*Soumak: technique of weaving with wrapped weft (embroidery), called in Iran suzan, suzani meaning 'embroidered with a needle'.
The territory of the shahsavans is located south and west of the Caspian Sea, in Iranian Azerbaijan. Made up of Kurdish, Persian, Turkish, Tajik and Caucasian ethnic groups, the shahsavan confederation was formed under the reign of the Safavid sovereign Shah Abbas (reigned 1587-1629).
