Rare watercolor view of the small summer palace in an Oriental style, called 'maly dvorets' or little palace, in Livadia (Yalta municipality) in Crimea of Tsar Alexander II (1818-1881).
He had it built between 1862 and 1866 following the 'bolchoi dvorets' or grand summer palace, based on plans by the Swiss-born architect Ippolito Monighetti, who was then fashionable in St. Petersburg. From 1867, it became the favorite residence of Empress Maria Alexandrovna (1824-1880), whom she called her 'Sweet Livadia'.
It is worth noting the presence of an imperial guard on duty.
Watercolor in very good condition, dated ’89, size 26x36 cm.
Antique frame with annotation on the backing card; the watercolor has been removed from its frame.
