A splendid Spanish painting from the second half of the 19th century. Oil on panel painting, signed Gallegos lower right, attributed to the great Andalusian painter José Gallegos y Arnosa (1857-1917). Known for his folkloric genre scenes and extraordinary attention to detail, his works were successful throughout Europe.
The style, subject matter, and technique of this painting are fully consistent with his oeuvre (the artwork is currently not accompanied by an expert opinion, but one can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs). The painting captures a moment of popular celebration, featuring a flamenco dancer, while music, dance, and conviviality intertwine in an engaging and light-filled atmosphere. The accurate rendering of the figures, the vibrant colors, and the narrative rhythm make it a highly impactful composition.
The details are stunning and meticulously crafted: to name a few, the embroidered fabrics, the bottles on the laid table, the enameled majolica on the wall. An elegant painting of remarkable pictorial quality, suitable for enriching an important collection or enhancing a refined setting, conveying the warmth of Andalusian tradition and the passion of flamenco.
Scenographic contemporary frame in finely carved and gilded wood, also featuring the inscription: José Gallegos, Jerez de las Fronteras 1859, Madrid 1919 (see photo). The painting has already been restored, with small areas of color restoration, but is in overall good condition. Internal dimensions: H 48 x W 60 cm.
