Tobacco Mortar And Pestle, A 19th Century Turned Boxwood “pilou” For Snuff
Tobacco mortar and pestle from boxwood, massively treated, turned with many rings, pestle has a beautiful round knob.
The tobacco carrot was placed on bottom of mortar, the pestle-grater, whose iron teeth were encrusted, was turned until a snuff flour was obtained, suitable for being "sniffed" and this grip was taken in the palm of hand.
It is a beautiful work, typical of Auvergne circa 19th century.
Condition: Good, beautiful patina, wear, and two natural imperfections of the wood.
Dimensions: 11.8cm x 3.7cm.
