Print by Horace Vernet (1789-1863) French painter and engraver from an illustrious dynasty of artists. Son of Carle Vernet and grandson of Joseph Vernet, he became known for his historical, military, and orientalist scenes. Highly appreciated during the Restoration and the Second Empire, he became director of the Académie de France in Rome. His works, of great vivacity, reflect his taste for action and detail. His engravings retain all the narrative power of his compositions.
