Model known as with flowered cornersTotal dimensions with its frame: 90 x 77 cm. The canvas alone: 75 x 61 cmThis very attractive portrait which in all probability would be that of Augusto Chigi (1662-1744) aged around twenty. The painter Voet having portrayed him several times during his life. In bust against a dark background, the personality of the character takes on its full importance. He is dressed in a black suit and on his shoulders, a fully embroidered red scarf, around his neck a large red bow from which falls a jabot tie whose lace is masterfully executed, the painter surely used the handle of his brush to dig the patterns and give a relief appearance. The painter:The work of Jacob Ferdinand Voet, rediscovered in 1939, consists of elegant bust portraits located halfway between those of Mignard and those of Carlo Maratta. Mainly active in Rome between 1670 and 1690 approximately, Voet painted many portraits there, including those of the nieces of Cardinal Mazarin: Olimpia, Hortense, Maria and Maria-Anna Mancini.Voet was the portraitist of the papal court and the Roman aristocracy. Supported by Queen Christina of Sweden, who was then residing in Rome, he painted her portrait as well as that of her friend, Cardinal Azzolino. Some Englishmen, who visited Rome during their Grand Tour, also commissioned Voet to paint their portraits. The artist then went to Turin, and then ended his career at the French court. *Reference work: Francesco Petrucci "Ferdinand Voet 1639-1689) Ugo Bozzi Editore srl Roma Very well preserved.
