Console Decorated With Caryatids In Gilded Wood, Italy, First Half Of The 18th Century.

This console is made of gilded wood, the straight belt, it rests on two front legs in sheath carved with busts of women with high headdresses provided with feathers, the two rear legs in cylinder. The whole is connected by a geometrically shaped spacer, on claw feet covered with a large overflowing acanthus leaf. It is topped with a Breccia Nuvolata marble top from a later period.
This marble, with its very decorative appearance, is typical of Italian marbles used from the Renaissance onwards for fireplaces, columns or furniture tops. It is found mainly in Northern Italy around Brescia, Verona. Superb and high-quality gilding, fresh and bright burnished. Italy, Florence region -
First half of the 18th century. The top from a later period.

What we think: the structure with the caryatids is clearly early 18th century and it is most certainly Italian in the vein of what Pierre Gole did (again the French influence and even in Italy ...) for the bases of the Louis XIV cabinets at the end of the 17th. It is also not impossible that it is a base transformed into a console. The quality of the gilding is just exceptional. We only had to revive it and clean it. Very decorative piece of furniture.
