Superb and large antique baby doll by Johann Daniel Kestner, one of the most renowned German makers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Head: fine bisque, perfectly preserved, bearing the intaglio mark JDK – 257 on the reverse. Very fresh bisque, without cracks or chips. Face: lively and realistic expression with full, rosy cheeks, half-open mouth revealing upper teeth and sculpted tongue. Delicately arched painted eyebrows, red highlights on the lips. Eyes: blue blown glass, fixed, giving the child an intense and captivating gaze. Hair: antique wig of natural brown hair, slightly curly. Body: original, composition, jointed at the shoulders, hips and knees, with traces and wear consistent with age. Beautiful patina of time. Hands and feet: sculpted with realism, detailed fingers and toes, showing small wear. This doll, by its imposing size and the quality of its modeling, perfectly illustrates the know-how of the Kestner house, rightly nicknamed "the king of doll makers".
