Large oil on canvas signed Léon Galand* representing a nude woman reading, seated and seen from behind, dated 1943, painting exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists at that date, from the 20th century. This painting is in good condition and is very decorative due to its large size. Signed and dated lower right + stamp (and labels with number) from the 1943 Salon. Please note: small defects on the painting in the upper right corner, some wear of time on the frame, see photos. * Léon Galand, whose full name was Léon Laurent Galand (1872-1960), was a French painter and illustrator. He was a student of Ernest Michel, Robert Delaunay, Gustave Moreau, Fernand Cormon and Joseph Blanc. He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1904 and obtained a gold medal and a 2nd prize of Rome, an honorable mention in 1903 at the Salon des artistes français, a third class medal in 1909, a gold medal. He was decorated with the Legion of Honor in 1924. He also sent his works to the Salon d'hiver. He produced portraits, landscapes especially of Brittany and Provence, genre scenes and nudes.
