Pierre Petit (1910-1985), French painter and master glassmaker. Born in Tours in 1949, he began an apprenticeship at the age of 13 with a master glassmaker from Tours. He prepared for the entrance exam to the National School of Decorative Arts at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tours, where he obtained his diploma. In 1949, he received the Hallmark Prize and the Contemporary Painting Prize. At the same time, he continued his work as a stained glass artist. In 1972, he was named Meilleur Ouvrier de France with "La création du monde", a stained glass project for Troyes Cathedral. With the stained-glass windows of Sainte-Baume in Provence, he carried out his most important project, which he nicknamed "his great cathedral of light". In Indre-et-Loire, he is notably responsible for a stained-glass window representing Notre-Dame de Boulogne at the Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church in Azay-sur-Cher in 1944; a stained-glass window of Saint-François-de-Paule at the eponymous church in Tours in 1958. He was received as a companion glazier of the Devoirs unis in 1974 and created the stained-glass windows for the Musée du Compagnonnage in Tours in 1975. Part of the collection of this master glazier from Tours is preserved in the Departmental Archives of Indre-et-Loire.
