Traditional antique Russian Icon from the estate of a collector. Hand painted in tempura on an oak wooden panel in the 19th century.
In a scene framed by ecclesiastical architecture, a saint seems to officiate a miracle, the healing of a sick person. It could be Saint Liduvina. All the characters appear nimbus and wrapped in sumptuous robes decorated with brocades. The carmine, black and golden tones are impregnated with beautiful iridescence that give silk-like qualities to the costumes. The gestures are elegant and the carriage stylized. Above three angels sitting at a table.
The orthodox icons respond to a tradition that is foreign to painting of a representational nature. In the icons everything has a symbolism: the color must express the inner luminosity, a light that does not come from the physical world. In them there is no usual space, just as there are no conventional events.
