Finmar Three-legged Stool, Finland 1930

Artist: Alvar Aalto
This stool is a timeless classic that embodies mid-century style.
Model 60. Made of birch, it was designed by Alvar Aalto in Finland and originally marketed in the UK by Finmar.

Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto was born in Finland on February 3, 1898. Trained as an architect and designer, he is often considered the "father of modernism" in Scandinavian countries. His work includes architecture, furniture, textiles, and glassware.
Finmar was founded in 1934 by architect Philip Morton Shand and engineer Geoffrey Boumphrey to import Alvar Aalto's plywood furniture from Finland.

The shop was located in the heart of London, on Kingley Street, in Soho. This stool is one of his signature designs and features the logo on the base of the seat. Please take a close look at all our photos.
