19th Century Miner's Rave Lamp With Sides.

8-sided steel oil lamp with brass tank closure plate, olives on the stirrup and hook also in brass. Rave mounted on an articulated stirrup. When the oil level dropped, the rave was tilted by means of this articulation to consume the rest of the fuel. The most common shape of the tank was round, sometimes octagonal 8 sides and more rarely 16 sides. Depending on the hierarchy of the miner, ornaments were added such as:
- the number of sides 8 or 16
- knots or olives on the stirrup and the hook (in iron or brass)
- caps of different shapes (in iron and brass)
- worked extensions, twists, heart, hammer.
Often the cap was topped with a rooster which symbolizes "Vigilance". In good general condition, with traces of use.
