Pair of richly carved giltwood lyre-backed chairs from the Louis XVI period. The horseshoe-shaped seat rests on fluted legs. The apron and the outline of the lyre-back are carved with a frieze of pearls, and the connecting canopies are decorated with rosettes. The back frame is flanked by two fluted columns. The lyre is topped with an elegant shell. The back frame ends in a gendarme's hat with a frieze carved with heart-shaped rays. Fully pegged assembly and hollowed-out apron. Usual restoration to the frame of one of the backs and two losses to be noted on the gendarme's hat. Upholstered in jacquard fabric with Chinese motifs. Circa 1780
