"Achille Beltrame 'the Grape Harvest' Ca. 1926 For Soc. Anonima Grandine"
Watercolor drawing on paper mounted on cardboard, titled 'The Grape Harvest' by Achille Beltrame (1871 - 1945). This is a preparatory drawing for the painting chosen to illustrate the 1927 Almanac of the Società Anonima Grandine. The company was founded by Assicurazioni Generali in Milan in 1890 as a separate entity with the full name of 'Società anonima di assicurativa a premi fisso contro la grandine' (Anonymous Society for Fixed-Price Hail Insurance). To promote its image and the services it offered, the company relied primarily on illustrated almanacs. The image presented here is part of a series that, from 1923 onwards, was dedicated exclusively to the soothing countryside and agricultural activities. Initials/signature at lower left. Non-contemporary frame, glass on glass. Milan, ca. 1926.
