"Small Mahogany Cylinder Desk, Louis XVI Style – Mid-19th Century"
A superb small Louis XVI desk in solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, the apron of which houses a drawer delicately framed by a brass ogee molding. This drawer is opened with a bronze key, which operates a perfectly functional original lock. The finely chiseled keyhole adds an additional touch of sophistication. This cylinder desk rests on four turned tapered legs, adorned with stopped fluting outlined in brass, each ending in an elegant brass shoe. The cylinder section, decorated with a brass ogee molding, has two bronze side handles allowing it to open smoothly. A central lock, identical to that of the lower drawer, is unlocked with a bronze key. Upon opening, the cylinder reveals a refined work space: a sliding shelf framed in mahogany, dressed in black leather enriched with a gilt vignette and a delicate central ornament. The interior is completed by a niche and three small drawers with mahogany fronts, each decorated with a lentil knob and a brass frame. The upper part of the piece of furniture has a step made up of three drawers with brass rods and pull knobs, separated by fluted uprights. The whole is crowned by a top in bright pink Pyrenees marble, surrounded by a fine openwork brass gallery. Compact and ingenious, this small Louis XVI desk will seduce with its ideal dimensions, its quality of execution and the timeless charm of its shimmering wood. *****************Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
