Boulle Marquetry Artel And Its Crowned C-shaped Wall Console
Artist: Fortin
Large cartel clock and its console in Boulle marquetry composed of tortoiseshell and brass. Its molded shape is inspired by architecture. The marquetry features motifs of arabesques, foliage, lambrequins and a C crowned with foliage on the top of the cartel. The latter is richly decorated with gilded and chiseled bronzes. On the front under the drum, a bronze decoration with relief presents a female allegory flanked by bouquets of flowers. The cartel rests on four small feet with cartouches and clasps topped with garlands, wrapped with laurels. The enameled dial indicates the hours in Roman numerals.
