Slight transparency of the caption on the front.Format: 15 x 21.3 cm.In 1941, Philippe Halsman and Salvador Dali met at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York where the painter was exhibiting. This was the beginning of a thirty-seven-year collaboration. In 1948, the two men, impressed by the emergence of the atomic age and by the laws of physics, worked together on the development of a photograph with levitating objects. Dali, meanwhile, continued to work on Leda Atomica, the canvas seen (unfinished) on the right of the shot, in which almost all the elements are also levitating. This iconic photograph was ideally achieved after twenty-six attempts at taking pictures. The chair on the left is held in the air by Halsman's wife, while the objects (the easel and the canvas) are suspended from invisible threads. On the count of three, the assistants throw three cats and a bucket of water. On the count of four, Dali jumps into the air, and Halsman takes the shot. After six hours, the photo is good! Philippe Halsman (1906-1979) moved to Paris in 1931 and became a photographer. His first photographs appeared in Vogue. Exiled in the United States, he produced portraits of Einstein, Groucho Marx, John F. Kennedy, Winston Churchill, Marilyn Monroe, and Salvador Dali that have remained in posterity.
