Belgian artist Jean Poulain was born in 1884 in the Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of Congo). In 1920, he discovered art and painting. From 1912, he traveled through various African countries. After completing his expeditions in 1930, he began painting animals based on his notes, sketches, and photographs. He died in Belgium in 1967.
