Frédéric Flachéron (Lyon, 1813 - Paris, 1883) was a sculptor and photographer from Lyon. Son of the eminent architect Louis Flachéron (and brother of the landscape painter Grégoire Isidore), Frédéric studied sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris before going to Italy, where he was part of the gang of lyonnais in Rome.  It was here in the Eternal City that Frédéric became one of the world's first photographers. The Musée d'Orsay holds a large collection of his photographs, although it appears that the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon has nothing by him. These two beautiful bronze medallions, of great finesse and quality, were maded by Frédéric in 1836, then aged 23, before his trip to Rome.
