Drawing with 19th century highlight, representing the melon market in Madrid. Genre scene signed lower left. Célestin-François Nanteuil (1813-1873), French painter, engraver, lithographer. A pupil of Ingres, he was close to Victor Hugo and notably illustrated Notre-Dame de Paris. He is one of the important artists of Romanticism. Curator of the Dijon Museum and made a knight of the Legion of Honor, he ended his life in Bourron-Marlotte, where he died in 1873. Good general condition. Framed under glass.
