"Overdoor — France, 18th Century, Work Of A Follower Of Christophe Huet."
This decorative panel in shades of blue illustrates a gallant and pastoral scene, typical of 18th-century taste. In an architectural setting opening onto a garden, an elegant couple in Louis XV dress are talking with a young woman presenting a basket of flowers. To the right, a peasant woman wearing a hat leads a donkey laden with flower baskets, reinforcing the rustic charm of the composition. The elongated rectangular format, the refined grisaille technique, and the old mounting on canvas confirm that this is a painting designed to be integrated into woodwork, probably as an overdoor or trumeau intended to decorate an aristocratic salon. With its pastoral theme and elegant style, this work is linked to the decorative tradition of Christophe Huet (1700–1759) and his followers, masters of the rural and flowery scenes that enlivened French interiors in the mid-18th century. This painting is part of a set of three panels, all from a castle in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region. It is presented here independently. Very good condition, painting restored a few years ago. Original oil on canvas, mounted on an old stretcher. Later frame, recent painted strip. Dimensions: Height 80 cm Width 111 cm
