Pioneers of bentwood furniture, Jacob & Josef Kohn, a Viennese firm founded in 1849, established themselves as direct competitors of Thonet at the end of the 19th century. Around 1900, they joined forces with the famous designer and co-founder of the Vienna Secession, Koloman Moser, a major figure in the Wiener Werkstätte. This collaboration resulted in highly modern furniture, combining geometric rigor, ornamental refinement, and technical innovation. Moser brought a unique graphic and architectural vision, breaking with traditional lines. Kohn-Moser furniture is distinguished by its minimalist elegance, prefiguring 20th-century design. These pieces are highly sought after today for their artistic and historical value, between art nouveau and avant-garde.
