"Thomire Pair Of Empire Period Gilt Bronze Vases"
Pair of Medici-shaped vases forming potpourris in finely chiseled and mercury-gilded bronze.
The vases are decorated with friezes of antique-style figures, the lids pierced with palmettes and resting on sea-green marble bases decorated with mercury heads.
Work attributed to Pierre Philippe Thomire 1751-1843.
Empire period, early 19th century.
Note: one marble counter-base has been glued back together and another has been redone, and there are small losses to the repairs on one lid (see photo).
