"Sèvres Biscuit Bust Of General Kléber, Late 19th Century."
Very nice bust from the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, in biscuit porcelain on a blue enamelled pedestal representing General Kléber. Marked "Sèvres" in a cartouche on the back. Marks of the manufacture "S84": 1884 for the paste and "gilded at Sèvres 92": 1892 for the gilding. Jean-Baptiste Kléber, born on March 6, 1753 in Strasbourg and assassinated on June 14, 1800 in Cairo, Egypt, is a French general who distinguished himself during the wars of the French Revolution, notably during the War of the Vendée and the Egyptian campaign. Kléber established himself as one of the greatest generals of the French Revolution. Very good condition. L/D/H: 28 X 19 X 37 cm. Diameter: 13.5 cm Height of base alone: 8.5 cm.
