"19th Century Art Cabinet In Wood With Ebony, Turtle And Bone Inlay"
Magnificent, subtle Baroque art cabinet. Originating from southern Europe. 19th century. It rests on ball feet. Exceptionally in good condition, it is rare to find one of this quality. Marquetry of various fantastic woods, including ebony (black color). Tortoiseshell and bone were also used. An art cabinet (or Kunstkammer) was used from the 16th century onwards to collect and display special objects. It was a kind of private museum for wealthy collectors, princes, or scholars. In such a cabinet, works of art, scientific instruments, exotic objects, minerals, fossils, and curiosities were kept. The goal was both aesthetic and educational: to impress visitors, but also to order and symbolically understand the world and nature. Everything works as it should. No marquetry pieces are missing. With the exception of one drawer lock, all locks work properly.
